Thomas Bruce Barnett Jr.

Thomas B. “Bruce” Barnett, Jr, son of the late Thomas B. and Hazel Parkes Barnett of Macon, MS, passed away at age 75 at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle Hospital on Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was born on July 24, 1946 and reared in Macon. He graduated from Macon High School in 1964 and then served his country in the U.S. Navy in a naval construction battalion, also known as the “SeeBees”. Not long after his military service ended, Bruce began working for the U.S Postal Service, from which he retired in 2009 after thirty years of employment. Bruce was a member of Schaeffers Chapel Methodist Church in Lowndes County. He and his wife Linda made their home on the banks of Tibbee Creek and together, they enjoyed the quiet stream-side life and all their friends and neighbors on the creek. Bruce loved spending time on the waters of the Tibbee and the Tombigbee rivers with his family and friends, both in the daylight and at night. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved it when he would point out alligators to them at night. Bruce’s real forte’ was the Bar-be-que, of which he was a master. He won several BBQ championships, including the “Pigfest” in Columbus. Bruce and his friends attended the annual “Shrimpfest” in Gulf Shores every year.

Bruce Barnett’s funeral service will be a private family service, but a visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon. All memorials are requested to be made to Schaeffers Chapel Methodist Church.

Bruce Barnett is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda Robinson Barnett and by his two daughters: Kimberly Simmons of Flora, MS and Tina Barnett of Columbus. He is also survived by his step-sons: Robie DeShazo of Corpus Christi TX and Cameron DeShazo of Fairhope, AL and by his sister: Margaret Gary of Pearl, MS. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Morgan Mendenhall, Trey Deshazo, Will DeShazo, Landon Purvis, Zach Simmons, Cam DeShazo, Duncan DeShazo, Mia DeShazo, Ellie DeShazo as well as 3 great-grandchildren; Savannah, Oliver and Henry.
