William Michael Mcguire

William Michael “Mike” McGuire, 68, of Burleson, Texas  died November 16, 2019 at Community Hospice Center. He was born on March 20, 1951 in Macon, Mississippi to William F. McGuire and Virginia Morrison McGuire. Mike married Yunja Lee of Starkville, Mississippi on December 17, 1977. He graduated with a BS in Banking and Finance and earned a Master degree in Counseling, both from Mississippi State University. While a student at Mississippi State, Mike served as assistant pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He received his Masters of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. While a seminary student, Mike served as assistant pastor in charge of English ministry at the Korean First Baptist Church of Dallas. After graduation, Mike was named to an internship at Dallas Theological Seminary, where he instructed students in the Masters of Theology program. Mike continued his education receiving a PhD in Family and Marriage Counseling. He served on the counseling staff of First Baptist Church Dallas for fifteen years and spent twelve years as a faculty member of Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, training and mentoring students in the Marriage and Family PhD program. Mike also taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Dallas for 35 years. He is predeceased by his parents and a brother, J. Chris McGuire.

He leaves behind his wife, Yunja Lee McGuire of Burleson, Texas; a son, William Eric McGuire and three grandsons, William Josiah McGuire, David Riley Lazar McGuire, and Gabriel John McGuire, all of Houston, Texas. He also leaves two siblings, Virginia McGuire(Ginny) Winchester and Phillip Owen (Buz)  McGuire both of Macon. A memorial service was held at Truitt Chapel, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary on Saturday, December 7, 2019.

A graveside service is planned for Saturday,  January 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home  in Macon, Mississippi.  Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
