William "Bill" Ernest King

June 16, 1942 — July 22, 2020

William “Bill” King of Brooksville, MS passed away at his residence on July 22, 2020 at the age of 78. A private graveside service was held at Deerbrook Cemetery where he was laid to rest beside his late wife, Myra and his grand-daughter Mackenzy Worthy. Bro. Glen Miller officiated at the service. A memorial visitation for all of Bill’s family and friends will be held at Cooksville United Methodist Church near Macon on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.

William Ernest King was born on June 16, 1942 in Cliftonville, MS to the late James Randolph King, Jr. and Hazel Ann Lavender King. He graduated from Brooksville High School and attended East Mississippi Junior College in Scooba, MS on an athletic scholarship. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in July of 1961 and went on to serve two tours of duty in Viet-Nam on his way to a 20-year career in the Air Force. He retired from service as a Master Sergeant in 1981. Bill met the love of his life, Myra Wiggins and, on December 12, 1967, they were wed. After his retirement, the two lived in Lumberton, MS for about ten years before moving back home to Cliftonville. Bill was a “Jack-of-All-Trades” who held various jobs in Noxubee County, including a dairy tester for Noxubee County for ten years as well as a rural route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Bill raised quail for several years and was currently raising beef cattle. His hobby was bailing hay, which he really enjoyed. In addition to his parents, wife and grand-daughter, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers: Jimmy King and Tommy Ray King.

Bill King is survived by his two daughters: Angela King Ivey (Jim) of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Vicki King Worthy (Fred) of Vidalia, LA. and by his son: Billy King (Robin) of Macon, MS. He also leaves behind his sister: Charlotte Lindley (Ancil, Jr.) of Crestview, Fla. and three brothers: Stanley King (Cindy)- Gould, AR; Barney King – Waco, TX; and Larry King (Tammy) of Macon, MS as well as by six grandchildren: Katelyn Worthy, Abigail Worthy, Anna Morgan King, Heath Ivey, Wyatt Ivey, and W.K. King.
