Tim Gowan, 72, a prominent and well-respected local attorney in Noxubee County, passed away at Noxubee General Hospital on Monday, May 27, 2024, following a sudden illness. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon at 10:00 A.M. with Catherine Penick and Morgan S. Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 P.M. at Coleman Cemetery, % 2261-2299 County Road 4233, Sallis, MS 39160. A visitation will be held on Friday evening, May 31st, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Sweet Paws Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 32, Macon, MS 39341 and to the Coleman Cemetery Fund, % Frank Montague, 10165 Hwy 12, Sallis. MS  39160. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is honored to be in charge of the service arrangements.

Timothy Lamar Gowan was born on July 24,1951 to the late Frank Young Gowan and Inez Gunter Gowan in Kosciusko, MS. He was a graduate of McAdams High School and Holmes Community College and later furthered his education by graduating from Mississippi State University and Mississippi College School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate. Tim worked in construction with Ivy Construction Co to support himself through law school. After law school, he opened his own private law practice for ten years in Jackson, MS. In 1987 he married the light and love of his life, Sharon Story from Ocean Springs, who became his partner, paralegal and office manager. Three years later the couple moved to Macon to partner with Charlie George Perkins in his law firm there. The firm was renamed Perkins & Gowan. Tim opened his own practice in Macon in 1997 under the name of Gowan Law Firm where he practiced until his death. During his career, Tim served as a Special Master and Family Master in the Hinds County Chancery Court. He also served in Noxubee County as a Justice Court Judge, the Macon Municipal Judge, and as a Special Master and Designee and Youth Court Referee for the Noxubee County Chancery Court. Tim was admitted to practice before all Federal and State Courts in Mississippi and before the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He served on the Board of Commissioners of the Mississippi Bar Association from 2004 through 2007. Tim was also very active outside of his law practice, holding memberships in The Macon Rotary Club for many years, serving it twice as president and was designated a Paul Harris Fellow therein. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees. Tim was a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, The Southern Land Title Association, the National Organization of Social Security Representatives, the Bar Association of The Fifth Circuit Court, and was a member of the Noxubee Alliance and in 2017 he was named Man of the Year. He was a member of the Noxubee County Chamber of Commerce where he had served as President. Tim served on the Noxubee County Library Board. Tim had also been honored by being chosen as the Charity Ball King by the Macon Junior Auxiliary in 2013. When he was not having to practice law, Tim enjoyed spending time outside on his farm and he loved all animals, but most especially his dogs.

Tim Gowan is survived by his wife: Sharon Story Gowan of Macon and his siblings: Patsy Carroll of Jacksonville, Fla, Ivylyn Long (George) of Atlanta, GA, Kay Asken of Sallis, MS, Nell Steele of Sallis, Mary Beth Burghard (Louis) of Wesson, MS and Frank Young Gowan, Jr (Sara Jo) of Sallis, MS as well as many nieces and nephews.
