Sarah Virginia Vernon  was born on September 21, 1934 to the late Johnny and Flora G. Butler Higginbotham in Noxubee County, MS. She attended school in Shuqualak and was married to the late Robert Vernon. She worked at American Bosch for fifteen years and later for the Macon Pants Factory. Virginia was a long-time member of Butler Pentecostal Church. She was an amazing cook, especially her cakes and sweets. At every event, whether it was a church gathering, a family dinner or a wedding or funeral meal, everyone checked to see what she had brought so that they could claim a piece before it was gone. Virginia loved Christmas, the gifts, and the gatherings and all the time that she and her extended family shared together. She was very family-oriented and loved all her family, from close relatives to distant cousins and enjoyed spending every minute with them that she could, remembering all the old times and learning about what was presently going on in their lives. Virginia like to spend her spare time fishing, crocheting, and working crossword puzzles.  She was a great friend to so many people and her absence will be felt through-out her church and home communities.

Mrs. Vernon is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Vernon; son, Gary Eaves; two brothers, Lamar Higginbotham and Gilbert Higginbotham.

Mrs. Vernon is survived by her daughter: Rita (Willis) Jones of Shuqualak, MS; brother, Reginald (Betty) Higginbotham of Shuqualak, MS; four grandchildren, Bill, Jennifer, Amy, and Wayne; 9 great grandchildren: Daryl, Justin, Bailey, Anna Claire, Summer, Casey, Brianna, Kayla, and Nyla and two great-great grandchildren: Slade and Kyleighe Ray.
