Sandra Kay Jantz Schmidt was born on September 28, 1957, to Ervy and Gwyneth (Gwyn) Jantz at Wichita, KS. She had a difficult childhood after her mother died when she was not yet two years old. However, God needed her and when she was fourteen he called her into his service. She answered God’s call and was baptized into the Church of God In Christ Mennonite at Montezuma, KS. on January 17,1972, by Min Donald Koehn. Six years later on February 19, 1978, she married Willie Ray Schmidt. They established their home in Macon, MS. where they worked hard together to make a living and provide for their three boys.
She was always a people person and made friends easily. God had given her a talent and a love for music. She used this talent well by writing many songs and singing with her family and friends. The Church was very precious to her. She was well versed in Church Doctrine and she pored over her Bible. Her boys and their salvation were always important to her. God was able to use her further as she helped with Bible School, wrote Sunday School lessons and other short stories. Her baptismal vows were important to her.
Then sadly came a time of wandering--of chasing those things she had once called sin. God never gave up on her. He continued to call her wherever she went, and in the last days of her life she once again found that treasure that we dare not lose.
She is survived by her husband Will Schmidt, Brooksville, MS; her sons Trent and wife Carolyn Schmidt, Brooksville, MS; Weldon and wife Vanessa Schmidt, Geiger; Eric and wife Eileen Schmidt, York; father, Ervy Jantz, Bristow, OK; sisters, Adina and husband Charles Schmidt, Montezuma, KS; Pat and husband Everett Koehn, Buhl, ID; nine grandchildren, and the Kennedy’s, a special family. She was preceded in death by her mother and brother.
