Ruth White Adams

December 18, 1928 — March 31, 2020

Mrs. Ruth White Adams, 91, of Columbus Mississippi, formerly of Macon, Mississippi passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on March 31, 2020 at Garden Hill Assisted Living in Columbus, Mississippi.   A private family graveside service was held on April 3, 2020 at Salem Cemetery in Macon with Bro. Andy Pearson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Salem Cemetery Fund, 23 Hunter Street, Macon, Mississippi 39341 or to the donor’s choice. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is honored to be entrusted with the service arrangements.

Ruth White Adams was born on December 18, 1928 in Brandon, Mississippi to the late Irby Cole White and Sadie Harper White. She was raised in Macon, Mississippi and graduated from Macon High School.  On October 7, 1946, she married Stuart Adams, Jr. and lived in Macon until her husband’s death in 1974. She then moved to Columbus, Mississippi where she worked for the Columbus Housing Authority as a bookkeeper and occupancy supervisor for 27 years until her retirement.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her brothers Irby C. White, Jr. and Herbert H. White.

Mrs. Adams is survived by her sons Lem Adams and Jimmy Adams and her daughter Debra Jones (Roy Byrd) all of Columbus. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Natalie Hegwood (David) of Brandon, MS, Stuart Adams of Starkville, MS, Jud Jones (Kristy) of Jackson, MS and Jenna May (Erik) of Gallatin, TN, and four great-grandchildren.
