Rubye Rigdon Hailey

Rubye Rigdon Hailey, 77, of Shuqualak, MS passed away at her residence on Wednesday April 29, 2020.

A private family graveside service was held Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Hailey- Richey Cemetery in Preston, MS with Bro. Gerald Butler officiating. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or Blair Batson Children’s Hospital, 2500 N State St, Jackson, MS 39216. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the service arrangements.

Rubye Rigdon Hailey was born on October 19. 1942 in Electric Mills, Mississippi to the late Grace Oliver and Mary Elizabeth Killingsworth Rigdon. She moved to Shuqualak with her family and graduated from Shuqualak High School. She then attended East Mississippi Junior College where she sang in the choir. On April 24, 1965, she married John Hailey. Rubye worked at Scooba Manufacturing until her retirement. She was a devoted caregiver who took care of her parents when they were unable to care for themselves. Her family was her life and she especially enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s athletic events. After her home burned, she moved in with her daughter and her family where she lived until her death. She was a “people person” who was very outgoing and who never met a stranger. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, porch sitting and bird watching. Rubye was a member of Shuqualak Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was known for her beautiful voice. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: John Hailey, one brother: Ronnie Rigdon and brother-in-law Mike Butler.

Those left to mourn her passing are her children: Olivia (Libby) Hailey Woods and husband Andrew, Angie Boykin and husband Bill, John Andy Hailey, Jr. and wife Libby; sisters: Edie Butler and Beth and husband Gary Scoggins; and her brother: Rickey Rigdon and wife Mary ; fourteen grandchildren: Larrel Woods, Dakota Woods, Montana Woods, Zoe Woods, Amber Woods, Megan Edwards, Kelsie Vernon, Madison Roark, Kaitlin Nyhlom, Burton Rosamond, Garrett Boykin, Cade Higginbotham, Mazie Grace Hailey, and Ella Rose Hailey; three great-grandchildren: Callie Edwards, Sophie Vernon, and Knox Vernon: and a very special friend: Donna Rosamond.
