Roger W Johnson

December 19, 1938 — October 30, 2019

Roger Lee Johnson was born to Orval and Ruth Wenger Johnson near Summerdale, Alabama on December 19, 1939. He peacefully passed away October 30 in Demopolis, Alabama at the age of 79 years. A funeral service is planned for Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Brooksville Mennonite Church in Brooksville, Mississippi.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

He was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by minister Harry Harms in Walnut Hill, Florida at the age of 14 where he spent the majority of his growing up years. On April 3, 1960 he married Marilyn Jantz in Fairview, Oklahoma. One son, Rodrick Scott, was born to this union, a bright little boy who at the age of 8 months contracted a brain disease. This was a deep and bitter grief to Roger, who was a lover of children. Roger enjoyed numerous occupations throughout his life including farming, land leveling, grain elevator work and truck driving. He was of a generous nature and a lover of people. Though most of his life was lived away from God we have a good hope that God in his great mercy and love heard his cry for deliverance in his last days, for which we are unspeakably thankful. We commit him into the hands of a loving, just, and merciful God.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth Johnson, Moundridge, Kansas, Marilyn Johnson , Brooksville, Mississippi, brothers Ed and wife Hazel,Demopolis, Alabama,  Frank and wife Judith, Uniontown, Alabama, sisters, Annie and Johnnie Johnson, Atwood, Illinois, Janet Zismann, Macon, Mississippi, Christine and Kirby Goering, Moundridge, Kansas and sister in  law, Carol Johnson, Macon, Mississippi and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Rodrick, his father Orval Johnson, brother Arlo Johnson, sister Mavis Koehn and brother in laws Glenn Koehn and Dennis Zismann.
