Ricky Freeman Vernon

A funeral service for Ricky Vernon, 64, of Shuqualak, MS  is planned for  Sunday, May 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Butler Pentecostal Church with a parking lot service style. A Visitation will be held on the side  porch from 10 until 11 a.m. The funeral  home and family requests that everyone observe social distancing. We will have markers on the ground six feet apart for the visitation line. Memorials may be made to Butler Cemetery Fund, 991 Johnny Higginbotham Rd, Shuqualak,  MS  39361.   Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Richard Freeman Vernon was born on February 23. 1956 to the late Freeman and Margaret White Vernon in Macon,  Mississippi.  Ricky was a graduate of Nanih Waiya School. He attended Mississippi State University where he studied Dairy Science. Ricky was a truck driver for over thirty years until ill health forced him to retire.  He enjoyed his work trucking. He adored his wife and dearly loved his children.  He enjoyed going to church and was a member of Butler Pentecostal Church. Ricky was a big part of the Butler Community. He was a “professional instructor”  who was quick witted. Ricky was a talented musician who could play many instruments including the guitar and saxophone.  He enjoyed working with horses and cows, as well. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister: Debrah Jane Vernon and two grandchildren: Charles and Chandler Young.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife: Rhonda Adams Vernon; two daughters: Lori Rouse (Josh) and Leah Wylie (Jason); two sons: Kyle Vernon (Christina) and Cody Vernon (Alexa Harrison);  four grandchildren: Madalyn Holley, Logan Young, Haden Wylie, and JaLeigh Wylie; and one sister: Patricia Adams.
