Raymond L Slawson

Raymond Slawson, 81, of Macon, MS passed away at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon on Tuesday, June 19, 2018. Raymond was born in Louisville, MS on February 3, 1937 to the late Roger L. and Lennie Reed Slawson. He attended Ellison Ridge School in Winston County. While still a teenager, Raymond moved to Detroit, Michigan and in 1960, he married Alice Cotton. Raymond worked as a mechanic for John Deere at the John Deere dealership in Macon, MS for many years before transferring to Torbert, LA to continue with the company. He was known to be able to fix anything painted John Deere green and yellow and always enjoyed talking about tough repairs that he had made. In 1995, he retired and he and his wife moved back to Macon, where they owned and operated the Discount Food Store for several years. Raymond enjoyed going to flea markets to see what he could find, but he truly enjoyed searching the countryside for stone arrow-heads and other artifacts. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Eugene Slawson, and by a son-in-law: Thomas Denton.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 58 years: Alice, of Macon as well as by his two daughters: Beverly Boykin of Nakomis, Ill and Terry Denton of Torbert, LA and by four grandchildren and six great-grand-children. He is also survived by one sister: Ruth Boychuck of Clawson, MI.

Raymond Slawson’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 23 at 11:00 A.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon with Bro. Bill Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Cotton Cemetery near Shuqualak, MS. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until service time Saturday. The family requests memorials to please be made to the Cotton Cemetery fund % Dan Cotton P.O. Box 126 Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is honored to be entrusted with the service arrangements.
