Peggy Eaves was born in Winston County, MS on March 11, 1929 to the late Dewey Eaves and Clarise Sullivan Eaves. She was a graduate of Ellison Ridge High School. On April 12, 1947, shortly after her eighteenth birthday, she married her soulmate, E.C Patterson. The young couple moved to Ohio where they remained for sixteen years after which they moved to Macon and opened Patterson’s Grocery. This small store soon became centerpiece of the old Depot community of Macon. The couple operated the store until selling it at their retirement. After retirement they moved to the Land O’ Lakes community where they lived near the lake, enjoying every opportunity to spend time fishing and enjoying their quiet life. Mrs. Patterson was gifted in the art of cooking and friends and family enjoyed many meals of her fine southern dishes. She was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Macon and attended services as long as she was able to. Mrs. Patterson was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed rooting for her favorite team, the Mississippi State Bulldogs. While several generations of people called her their friend, Mrs. Peggy’s family was, of course, nearest, and dearest to her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren each held special places in her heart and will remember her as the best of grandmothers who never missed any of their ball games. Mrs. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, E. C. Patterson and by siblings: Dewey Eaves, Jean Gentry, Ethel Sennett, Jerry Eaves and her grandson Steve Briggs.
Those who survive include her three sons: James Edward (Kathy) Patterson of Delaware, Ohio; Mike D. (Gail) Patterson of Birmingham, AL and Gary W. (Jan) Patterson of Counce, TN. as well as by 9 grand-children: Aaron Patterson (Heather), Josh Patterson (Jessica), Kate Nelson (Doug), Kim Woods, Amy Hann (Chris), Heather Mason (Chris), Jaimee Patterson, Michael Patterson (Claire), and Brian Briggs (Tony) and 16 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind one sister: Joan Parrish of Detroit, MI and one brother: Johnny Eaves of Louisville, MS.
