Ormah Jeanie Unruh Giesbrecht was born to Peter and Katie Smith Unruh on November 1, 1929 at Montezuma, Kansas. Mom spent her   childhood years at Nevada, Missouri and Central Kansas. Most of her younger years were lived on the plains of Western Kansas. She passed away January 25, 2023.

Her family included ten boys and four girls. She was the first girl born after four boys. It was during the depression and she learned to work and improvise. Mom heard the call of God in her youth and was       converted. She was baptized by Minister David J. Koehn January 30, 1946.

She was a good cook and loved having company. The old farmhouse table was often filled with family and friends gathered around to enjoy a delicious meal. A freshly baked pie or cake usually finished the meal. Her meals were not elaborate or fancy, but just good old-fashioned cooking. Her generous heart often helped others in need.

On August 1, 1951 she married Arnold Giesbrecht. They enjoyed their married life for over seventy-one years. Dad passed away just fifteen days before Mom. This left Mom lonely, and her health declined rapidly. We are grateful she has been relieved of her burdens of life.

In 2006 Mom and Dad moved to the Oakwood Retirement Center in Brooksville, Mississippi. They were loved by the staff and were well cared for. It was difficult for her to accept a life that did not include the cooking and homemaking which was so much a part of her life. Even as her life began to decline her motto was, “Come in. Have a seat.”

Mom had a deep concern that her family be saved and often prayed for them. She had a compassionate heart and made friends among the neighbors in her community.

Her survivors include children: Marlene and Eldon Wedel, Brooksville, Mississippi; Lawrence and Beverly, Leland, Mississippi; Dana and    Pamela, Dumas, Arkansas; Thirteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; one brother Larry and Sharolyn, Grifton, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, parents-in-law, and two great-grand children.

The family again acknowledges its debt of gratitude to the many who have contributed to the care of our mother. The entire staff at Oakwood have provided loving personal care during Mom's stay. The Brooksville congregation has provided a safe spiritual home. The food committee, staff, and individuals have reached out generously.

May God bless each of you.
