Orie James Lane, Jr.

Orie James Lane, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Veteran’s Memorial Home in Kosciusko, MS. He was born September 15, 1930 in Noxubee County, to Orie James Lane, Sr. and Vera Mercy Sly. Mr. Lane graduated from Macon High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University.

Mr. Lane was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Macon. He loved to work in his garden and was an avid reader. Mr. Lane served in the United States Air Force in Germany from 1951-1955.  He took over his father’s dairy, Lane & Son’s, in 1955. The dairy began operation in 1919 and continued until 1978. In 1978, Mr. Lane was elected as Supervisor for District 3 in Noxubee County and acted in that position until 1988. He also served as commander of the G.E. Fraley Post #10531. He was president of Noxubee County Farm Bureau from 1984 to 1998 and was an active member of the Lion’s Club of Macon.

Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his wife, Dera Elizabeth Sigler Lane. He is survived by his three daughters, Deandra Barnett (James) of Macon, MS, Susan Boyd (Dick) of Millington, TN, and Rhonda Ann Lane, of  Villa Rica, GA; and two grandsons, Dusty and Duke Barnett, both of Macon.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon. Graveside services will be immediately following visitation at Oddfellows Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 162, Macon, MS  39341 or the donor’s choice.  Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is entrusted with arrangements.
