Mrs. Opal Taylor Gill, 88, passed away at Neshoba County Nursing Home in Philadelphia, MS on Friday, October 13, 2023. A graveside service is planned for Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Pinetucky Cemetery, Pinetucky Rd., Shuqualak, MS 39361. Memorials may be made Pinetucky Cemetery Fund, c/o Gayle Persons, 2386 MS Hwy 39, Shuqualak, MS 39361. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
Opal Taylor Gill was born on August 26, 1935 in Noxubee County, Mississippi to the late Olin Baker and Rosalie Thomas Taylor. Opal was a graduate of Shuqualak High School. After graduating, Opal began her career as an inspector for various manufacturing plants. Opal made her home in the Pinetucky community of Shuqualak. She was married to Rodney Gill who preceded her in death. Opal was a member of Soul Harbor Pentecostal Church. Her hobbies included flower gardening, ceramics, fishing and dancing. Opal is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers: Joe Taylor and Ralph Taylor, and a granddaughter, Stephanie Smith.
Opal survivors include her daughter, Cindy Symbalisty (Steve) of Whitehouse, TX, a son: Tim Reeder (Connie), Houston, TX; two brothers: Otis Taylor (Jean) of Columbus, MS and Olin Taylor (Annette) of Preston, MS; two sisters-in-law: Frances Taylor and Betty Jean Taylor; three grandchildren: Stacy Rich, Sammantha DuVall and Sara Symbalisty Johnson and ten great grandchildren: Caden Smith, Sawyer Smith, Kolsen Smith, Chaney Smith, Saylor Duvall, Mason DuVall, Remington DuVall, Titus DuVall, London Johnson, and Millie Johnson.
