Nowell Flake

Ernest Nowell Flake, 76, of Shuqualak, MS passed away 3/23/2023 at UMMC, Jackson, MS.  A funeral service is planned for Monday, March 27, 2023 at 2:30 p.m.at Butler Pentecostal Church, 4338 Butler Rd  in Shuqualak MS with Bro. Jimbo Flake officiating. Interment will follow in the Butler Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m., Monday. Memorials may be made to St. Jude 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN   38105 or Macedonia Community Church, 3247 Honey Lake Rd, Shuqualak, MS  39361. Ernest Nowell Flake, known as Nowell to everyone, was born in Macon, MS on January 31, 1947 to the late William Ernest and Onie Connor Flake. He was a graduate of Macon High School and later married Mary Jane Landrum. For many years Nowell worked as a truck driver for various companies before launching his career as a successful lumber salesman for Shuqualak Lumber     Company, a job that he enjoyed until his death. Nowell was a member of the Macedonia Community Church and a member of the Macon Masonic Lodge#40 F&AM.

He enjoyed taking his boys deer hunting and fishing as well as reading and watching Western movies on TV.

Nowell Flake is survived three sons: Richard, Randy, and Ryan Flake, daughter Christy Griffin and grandchildren, Justin White, Raylee White, and Clara Griffin, and by one  sister: Faye Dawkins of Starkville, MS.  He was preceded in death by his parents and by his significant other: Kathie Butler Coleman, a sister Elizabeth Thomas and a brother, Elvin Flake.
