“Mimi,” as she was affectionately known, was born May 17, 1931, in Brooksville, MS, to the late Marion Morgan Hines and Lucy Lee Parke Hines. She attended and graduated Brooksville Schools. She married Hugh L. “Sonny” King. She worked in the office at Kraft Foods in Brooksville. Then in later years she was co-owner and operator of King’s Store in the Cliftonville Community. She had numerous friends throughout the community. She played the piano at the former New Bethel Church in Cliftonville. Mimi enjoyed walks in the afternoon, pasture bonfires for “weenie roasts” and she was always up for a good fish fry! She enjoyed her friends at the Holiday Club for as long as she was able to attend. Mimi lived during decades long-gone, where ladies entertained in their homes, every meal was made of multiple courses and coffee was available at any time of the day, especially for the purposes of entertaining her friends and sisters-in-law. She always kept an immaculate house with beautiful “knick-knacks” and personal treasures. Her family has a saying “you know how Mimi is….” which is our way of lovingly reminding ourselves that everything must be kept in pristine order! Mimi enjoyed travel for as long as her health allowed, summer trips to visit family in California, visiting with her sister in Missouri and trips to her daughters in Colorado were always something she looked forward to!
Though our minds are saddened to let her go, our hearts are joyful in knowing that she awoke to heaven with Jesus and her friends and family that she has missed for so long.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Hugh L. “Sonny” King, as well as her second husband James Lavender; son Kenneth L. “Moe” King; siblings Margaret Frees, John Hines, “Jiggs” Hines and Larry Hines.
Mimi is survived by daughter Kathy Mooney (David); daughter-in-law Dee King; grandchildren: Brad Foster (Courteney), Mollie King (Tracy Jones), Katie Shappley (Cody) and Walter King (Jennifer Jones); great-grandchildren: Nathan, Lucas, Sunnie-Kate, Sonny, Cade and Kendall.
Serving as Active Pallbearers will be: Brad Foster, Walter King, Cody Shappley, Bubba Hines, Johnny Hines, Nathan Allen and Lucas Shappley.
The family wishes to recognize Dudley and Stella Hopkins, Lyn and Paul Lavender, Holly Rigdon NP (affectionately know as “Sally”) and staff, Bill Wilkins, Andrea and staff of Baptist Home Hospice and Dr. Gregory Childrey as honorary pallbearers.
