Mary Beth Watt, 41, of Como, MS passed away at her residence on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Her funeral service will be held at Cooksville United Methodist Church near Macon, MS at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 16, with Bro Glenn Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Cooksville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 until service time at the church Wednesday. Memorials are requested to be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital   262 Danny Thomas Place   Memphis, TN 38105. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS is honored to be entrusted with the service arrangements.

Mary Beth was born on March 19, 1977 in Columbus, MS. She spent her early childhood in the Cooksville Community of Noxubee County before moving to Houston, MS when she was in the third grade. She was a graduate of Houston High School and also attended classes at local junior colleges. She entered the United States Coast Guard on October 28, 2002 and served her country until July 27, 2007 when she was honorably discharged. During her service, Mary Beth received several commendations and medals, including the CG Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon, CG Rifle Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Global War on Terror Service Medal. After her military service she was employed as an auxiliary officer for the Macon Police Department and then worked for the West Point Police Department. She finished college at Mississippi State University with a degree in Criminology and then was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture for two years. At the time of her death, Mary Beth was employed by the Mississippi Department of Corrections in Marshall County, MS.  Having spent her early years in rural Noxubee County, Mary Beth had a natural affinity for the outdoors and enjoyed doing anything outside, especially hunting and fishing. She also enjoyed traveling and attended Cooksville United Methodist Church.

Mary Beth Watt is survived by her son: Dalton Watt of Como, MS: her mother: Janet Wray of West Point, MS and her father: Bud Watt of Buras, LA. She also leaves behind many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Frank Myer Lee, Jr and Betty Lee and by her paternal grandparents: J.T. Watt, Jr and Elizabeth D. Watt.
