Mrs. Mary Anna Reed, 78, of Shuqualak, MS passed away Monday, December 16, 2024, at Baptist Hospital in Meridian, MS. Funeral services are planned for Friday, December 20, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Soul Harbor Pentecostal Church in Shuqualak, MS. Interment will be in Butler Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 12-2 p.m., Friday. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
Mary Anna Moore was born in Macon, MS on March 19, 1946, to the late Baker and Lula Arlin Poole Moore. She grew up in Noxubee County and lived her entire life there. She attended Shuqualak High School and soon afterward married Earl Reed. Mary Anna made a career as a seamstress for several manufacturing companies over the years, all of which were located in Noxubee County. She was a very talented seamstress and loved to embroidery. Mary Anna was also a person who enjoyed being out of doors whenever she could and was always working in her yard or in her large garden when she was able to. She also made sure daily to take an afternoon nap. She enjoyed watching the Cooking Network and learning of how others prepared different foods both in America and overseas. She also prepared food for sick or shut-in people and for any occasion at the church. She loved people and everyone loved her. Mary Anna always prided herself on looking neat and nice wherever she went. Mary Anna served on the Shuqualak Library Board and a member of the Civic Club. She was a member of Shuqualak Methodist Church for many years and taught Sunday School there. Mary Anna led a bible study for many years at the Methodist Church where they would study the Bible, go on outings and played bingo together. She later became a member of Soul Harbor Pentecostal Church in Shuqualak. Mary Anna loved the Lord, her family and all of her many friends. She was a great prayer warrior and was a blessing to everyone who knew her. She loved the Christmas season, decorating her home and getting ready for her family on Christmas Day. All of her beloved family called her “2 Mama”.
Mary Anna Reed is survived by her husband Earl; her daughter Amy Vandevender (Barry) of Preston and her son: Mike Reed (Jean) of Scooba, MS. She also leaves behind her sister: Linda Jane Lunsford of Scooba as well as 6 grandchildren: Oliva, Emma, Baker, Lyle, Jacob and Layne; and 15 great-grandchildren: Ridge, Zoey, Mallie, Sadie, Audrey, Emily, Brody, John Parker, Hayes, Charleigh Kate, Mary Keli, Cross, Carter, Scottlyn and Emma. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son: Scotty, and two brothers: Charlie Moore and Gene Moore.
