Katie was born to Edward Fred Voegle and Amanda Mary Moyer Voegle on January 17, 1930 in Sandusky, Ohio. Katie graduated from Sandusky High School and then worked as a telephone operator until she met and married Frank Huerkamp in 1951. They began their life together in Fort Recovery, Ohio on the Huerkamp family farm. The city girl took the farm life well as she had a big garden and talked of sewing up little injured piglets from the farrowing barn.  Katie moved with her husband and six children to the warmer climate in Mississippi in 1963. She spent most of her time as a housewife raising her six children. She did work for Joe Stevens whenever a load of his fine furniture was delivered to Macon. Katie loved being a member of the Garden Club and the friendships it brought her. She also gave endless hours to putting together braille Bibles to be given away by the Lutheran Braille workers. Katie was known as a great cook and always gave her services to anyone in need. Katie loved her Corpus Christi Church and was a devoted member.

Katie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frances Bernard Huerkamp; her daughter, Jan Caroline Huerkamp, a sister, Gerry Riedy; two brothers, Jim and Chuck Voegle.  All her siblings were from Sandusky, Ohio.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith Ann Therrell of Bay St. Louis, MS; four sons: James Edward Huerkamp, of Columbus, MS; Jeffery Joseph Huerkamp of Columbus, MS; John Francis Huerkamp of Macon, Joseph Bernard Huerkamp of Macon, MS; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
