Mary Schwartz Borntrager

March 23, 1933 — April 20, 2019

Mary (Schwartz) Borntrager, 86,  of Macon, MS entered heaven’s gates on April 20, 2019. She closed her eyes for the last time in the early morning hours at the Noxubee County Nursing Home. Complications from diabetes contributed to her death. Memorial services will be held at Cornerstone Community Church on Hwy 14 West of Macon, MS at 11:30 a.m.Wednesday, April 24, 2019  with visitation and lunch to follow from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Alva Yoder, Rev. Kevin Yoder and Deacon Tom Schrock. A private burial will be a Salem Cemetery prior to the services. Memorials may be made to Salem Cemetery, 23 Hunter St., Macon, MS  39341.  Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is entrusted with arrangements.

Mary was born to the late Daniel and Katherine (Nussbaum) Schwartz on March 23, 1933 near Berne, Ohio. She married Maynard Daniel Borntrager on January 27, 1952 at Plato Mennonite Church in Indiana. Mary and Maynard lived most of their young married life in the Sturgis, MI where four children were born. The family moved to Macon, MS in 1967 and started a family dairy farm in the Salem community. Mary was a house wife and stay at home mom. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking and hosting other families for meals in her home when she was able. She also enjoyed gospel singing and playing her mandolin. Mary was a member of Faith Mennonite Fellowship in Crawford, MS.  Mary was preceded  in death by her parents; husband; son; Michael Borntrager and brother; Simon Schwartz and Henry Schwartz.

Surviving Mary are her children Myra (Walter) Kleis of Columbus, MS; Miriam (Morris) Miller of Macon, MS; Merrill (Ruth) Borntrager of Mt. Joy, PA and foster son, Gary Tubby; brothers, Danny Schwartz, Joe Schwartz and Dr. David Schwartz. Also surviving are grandchildren Barbara Kleis Stewart, Josh Kleis, Betsy Kleis Burney, Joey Kleis, Mitch Miller, Michelle Miller Lashlee, Emily Borntrager, Esther Borntrager, Eileen Borntrager Faus, Michael Borntrager, Jr., Timothy Borntrager, Missy and Gary Tubby. 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Stewart, Josh Kleis, Joey Kleis, Mitch Miller, Jason Lashlee, Michael Borntrager, Jr., Timothy Borntrager and Nate Faus.
