Mark Anthony Marro

December 6, 1956 — February 3, 2023

Mark A. Marro, 66, a five year resident of Starkville, MS but formerly of Shuqualak, MS, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, Feb 7, at Shuqualak Cemetery in Shuqualak, MS at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Derrick Wilson officiating. There will be no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS  66675-8516.  Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Mark Anthony Marro was born in Texas on December 6, 1956 to the late Robert Anthony and Glenna Armstrong Marro. He was a graduate of Gwinn High School in Gwinn, Michigan. He joined the U.S. Army in 1979 and remained in the service for twenty years. He qualified with all the basic weapons of the infantryman and was an expert with the M-16. He retired as a Sergeant First Class with most of his time being spent in the military police, mainly as an investigator and corrections specialist. During his service, he was also a successful recruiter for the Army for many years. Through the years, he was stationed in Savannah, GA., Franfurt, Germany, Greenwood, MS, Vicksburg, MS and Warren, OH. Mark married Joy Weaver in Savannah, GA on August 8, 1979 and they lived the army life until his retirement. They then moved to Shuqualak, MS where Mark worked as the water system maintenance person for the City of Shuqualak and also as a police officer. For the past four years, Mark has worked at Senter’s Appliance in Macon, MS. Mark was  a member of Shuqualak Baptist Church and enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, hunting and playing golf.

Mark is survived by his wife, Joy of Starkville, MS; his sons: Justin Marro (Natalie) of Mentone, AL and Ziggy Marro (Laura) of Booneville, MS and five grandchildren: Alexis Neal, Kaleb Rogers, Dixie Marro, Brooklyn Marro and James Wyatt Marro. He also leaves behind his brother: Mike Marro of Warren, Ohio.
