Marion Slocum Hummer

September 30, 1923 — June 3, 2020

Marion Kate Slocum Hummer of Prairie Point and Macon, MS, died on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at the Atria Senior Living facility in Carrollton, TX. She was a person of uncommon kindness, intelligence, and gentle wit.

Marion was born September 30, 1923, in Springfield, LA, to the late Andrew Randolph Slocum and Josephine Settoon Slocum. Her beloved husband Charles Vernon Hummer preceded her in death, as did her brother Randolph Julius Slocum. She was a member of the Independent Methodist Church in Macon, MS.

Marion is survived by her sons Charles Vernon Hummer, Jr., of Lewisville, TX, and Terry Randolph Hummer of Cold Spring, NY; her granddaughter, Theo Hummer of Windsor, ON; and her grandson, Victor Oliver Hummer of Phoenix, AZ.

The memorial service for Mrs. Marion Kate Slocum Hummer of Prairie Point, MS will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Oddfellows Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. graveside. There will be a visitation at the Funeral home from 10:00-10:45 a.m. No flowers please, Memorials may be made to the Independent Methodist Church, St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital or the charity of your choice. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of arrangements.
