Marion Daniels Farrar, 100, joined her heavenly Father, on Friday, August 7, 2020. Marion loved her family unconditionally just as our heavenly Father loves us. Funeral Marion, known as Babe to family and close friends, joined her husband of 59 years, Emmett W. Farrar, Sr., her son, Emmett W. Farrar, Jr., her parents, Orril and Alfreda Louise Carlson Daniels, her siblings, Olive Daniels Carlson, Robert Monroe Daniels, Laura Daniels, and mother in law, Carrie Adams Farrar. Although Marion lived an extraordinary life, her birth on September 15, 1919 was saddened by the death of her sister, Laura (14), the same day.
Marion grew up in the Piney Woods Community near Macon and was an active member of Soule Chapel Church. She attended the 2 nd grade in Moline, Illinois and graduated from Macon High School in 1938.
Marion and Emmett married on December 26, 1938 while her mother and father were visiting family in Illinois. She sent her parents a telegram informing them of her marriage to Emmett. They lived in New Orleans during WWII with their infant son, Emmett, Jr., and returned to Macon after Emmett was discharged from the Army. Marion resided in Macon until August 2016 when she and Linda moved to Madison MS to be closer to her granddaughter, Ashlie.
Marion’s first job, at age 17, was secretary to the principal at Macon High School during the depression as part of the National Youth Program. She worked for the Noxubee County Welfare office, Chancery Clerk’s office, and worked as Noxubee County Tax Collector from 1948-1952, 1956-1960, and 1964-1968 while Emmett, Sr., served as Sheriff. Marion was elected and served as Noxubee County’s first and only female sheriff from 1960-1964. Marion was manager of Moore and Woods Livestock Company, owner and manager of Macon Creosote Plant, and worked with Emmett on the family farm. Marion milked cows everyday before going to her job in town. She said milking is a 365 day a year job and gladly changed to beef cattle.
Marion was an active member of Soule Chapel Church and Salem Memorial Church. Marion was always eager to help and serve others. She was a Rainbow Girl, taught Sunday School, Macon PTA President, American Legion Auxiliary President, Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Mississippi Sheriff’s Association Secretary/Treasurer, MS/TN Peace Officers Association Secretary, Jolly 20 Supper Club member, and Noxubee County Historical Society member. She gave her entire life to others and organizations, often without the recipient’s knowledge. Emmett and Marion enjoyed being together and were rarely apart. They loved to spend time with family and friends, travel in their motor home, fish, and work in the garden.
Marion leaves her daughter, Linda Farrar, her granddaughter, Ashlie Thompson Dalton (Todd), and two great grandsons, Davis and Jack Dalton, all of Madison MS. Marion also leaves granddaughter, Melanie Farrar Carter (Jon), great granddaughter, Rachel Millar, and great-great granddaughter, Kynlie Millar, all of Moore OK, and daughter-in-law, Rita Gaskin Farrar, granddaughter, Jessica Farrar Duncan (Jason), and great grandson, Indy Duncan, all of Covington, LA.
A private service was held Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Salem Memorial Church with Rev. Glen Miller officiating. Memorials may be made to Soule Chapel Church, Salem Memorial Church, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
