Margaret E. Joyner

Mrs. Margaret E Joyner, our beloved mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the age of 88. She passed away in both of her daughter’s loving arms at  Garden Hill Assisted Living in Columbus, MS.

Margaret was born in Meridian, MS on April 1, 1935, and was the middle of three children born to the late James Robert and Louise Garrett. She graduated from high school in Meridian, MS and shortly after married the love her of life, Wayne D. Joyner in 1953. She was a loving housewife and mother to three children, traveling and moving frequently for her husband’s job, Southern Pipe and Supply. After Wayne retired, they made their home in Shuqualak, MS where they were faithful members of Macedonia United Methodist Church, nurtured one of the finest gardens, cooked and ate fresh vegetables daily, hunted and fished on their property, and lived the good simple country life. Margaret served on several church committees, attended weekly bible studies, and enjoyed gathering with her family and neighbors. She had a love for tending to her flower gardens, working puzzles and watching game shows. Wayne and Margaret celebrated 64 years of marriage before Wayne’s passing in 2018. After her husband’s passing, Margaret resided at Garden Hill Assisted Living in Columbus, MS near her daughter,    Suzanne. She is preceded by her parents, brothers James Lamar and Donny Garrett, and husband Wayne D. Joyner.

She is survived by her three children, Jerry and wife Karen Joyner, daughter Deborah and husband Walt Dodson, and daughter Suzanne Lasyone, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Her loving, kind, patient, caring, gentle and sweet soul will be dearly missed by all.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, June 18th , 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Macedonia Community Church, 3219 Honey Lake Rd., Shuqualak MS, 39361. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church at 1:00 p.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN, 38105. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
