Mrs. Louise “Lucy” Lee Holcombe, 79, of Macon, MS, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus, MS. A graveside service is being held Monday, October 12, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Elon Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Baptist Children’s Village, P.O. Box 27, Clinton, MS 39060, St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Elon Baptist Church, P.o. Box 128, Macon, MS 39341. Louise Lee Holcombe was born on September 1, 1941 to the late James Tilton and Beatrice Daniels Lee. She was a graduate of Shuqualak High School. While working at Macon Truck Stop, she met the love of her life, John L. Holcombe and they wed on August 26, 1960. Lucy worked for the Macon Garment Plant where she worked her way up to the supervisor’s position. She worked there until she and her husband purchased a local store building and opened Lucy’s Kwik Shop in the late nineteen sixties. This was a combination gas, grocery, and meat market business. In 1975, they opened the Burger Wheel, a drive-up fast food place. They operated these businesses for a period of time and then sold them. Following the sale, Lucy went to work for Merchants and Farmers Bank on October 18, 1987 as a teller. She later became a Financial Service representative where she looked forward to taking care of all of her customer’s financial needs. Lucy retired May 31, 2009. She enjoyed cooking, eating, gardening, (especially day lilies), shopping and socializing with her friends and family. Lucy never met a stranger and always enjoyed talking with everyone she met. Lucy was a member of Pinetucky Baptist Church near Shuqualak and, after moving to Macon, she became of member of Elon Baptist Church where she attended regularly. She was known to her grandchildren as Nana and Sippi. Lucy is preceded in death by her parents; husband: John L. Holcombe, a son: John Anthony Holcombe; and her siblings: Laura Battle, James Lee, Thomas Calvin Lee and J. T. Lee.
Those left to mourn her passing are her two daughters: Tina Holcombe Ferrell (Dave) of Macon and Michelle Holcombe Fason (John T.) of Carrollton, AL; five grandchildren: Zach Ferrell, Alex Ferrell, Shane Ferrell, Cheryl Hewitt (Phillip), and Brad Fason (Amy); three great grandchildren: Taylor Grace Ford, Payton Hewitt and Camryn Fason.; three sisters: Willie B. Carney (J.C.) of Butler, AL, Lettie Strickland (Huey) of Opelika, AL and Carolyn Rigdon of Macon, MS.
