Lawrence (Pete) Card, 82, of Shuqualak, MS passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle Hospital. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at Calvary Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Bill Ross officiating. A private family interment service will follow at Mohegan Cemetery near Shuqualak. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the service arrangements.
Lawrence Card, known as “Pete” to his family and friends, was born on October 19, 1939 in Shuqualak, MS to the late Thomas Clark and Vera Mae Prysock Card. He attended Shuqualak High School and later moved to Jackson for a few years where he worked for a door manufacturing plant. Lawrence moved back to Shuqualak and began working for Delta Macon Brick Plant (Boral Brick) until it closed. He also worked at several glove plants through the years and served in various positions at Shuqualak Lumber Company. He served in the Mississippi National Guard and attended Calvary Baptist Church. Lawrence enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and loved to tinker with anything. He also enjoyed watching football games, especially the Ole Miss Rebels. Most of all he loved being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Lawrence “Pete” Card is survived by his wife: Mary Ann Morton Card of Shuqualak; two daughters: Lynn Watson and Tina Card, both of Shuqualak and one son: Lawrence “Larry” Card of Union, MS. Also left behind are his four beloved grandchildren: Morgan Card, Martina Card, Gabriel Card, and Genae Card and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters: Mary Wolverton, Earline Misso, Sallie Kirkland, Louise Duckworth, Ruth Stone and his brothers: James Card, Joe Card, Thomas Card, Lester Card, and George Prysock.
