Joyce Vernon Presley

Mrs. Joyce Vernon Presley, 88, of Shuqualak, MS  passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Trinity Healthcare in Columbus, MS. Funeral services are planned for Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Soul Harbor Pentecostal Church, 403 Residence St., Shuqualak, MS  at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in Butler Cemetery, 4338 Butler Rd. Shuqualak,  MS  39361   Visitation will be held at the church from 10-11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Butler Cemetery, 991 Johnny Higginbotham Rd., Shuqualak, MS  39361.  Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Joyce was born on April 21, 1935, to the late Clarence and Lela (Hancock) Vernon in Gholson, MS. She was the last surviving member of her siblings. Joyce married her soulmate, Hubbard Presley, on April 4, 1953, and they made their home in Shuqualak, MS. Joyce was a wonderful cook who was called on often to use this talent as she opened her house to her entire family’s friends, including her grandchildren and their friends. She also enjoyed entertaining her friends with special meals and brunch. Their home and their Lake House at Land o’ Lakes in Brooksville was a hub for all the neighborhood children enjoying their weekends and summers there and she always had a watchful eye on them for their own safety. She enjoyed traveling, especially in support of her sons’ rodeo endeavors as they traveled to every contiguous state west of the Mississippi River. Joyce loved vacationing in the mountains, and she loved her Atlanta Braves baseball team. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Timothy Presley and six siblings. She will be missed by so many.

Joyce is survived by a daughter, Beverly P. Shelton (Joe) of Columbus, MS; two sons, Danny Ray Presley of Meridian, MS, and Darryl Presley (Jayi) of Crawford, MS; five grandchildren who lovingly called her MawMaw, Chad Johnston (Leslie), Terra Ray Presley (Curt), Michele Banks (John), Michael Presley (Melynn) and Jacob Presley and eight great grandchildren, Braedon and Presley Banks, Ryleigh and Drake Presley, Miles and McKinley Johnston, Raelynn and Frankie Parker.
