John Floyd Harrell, 76, of Macon, MS passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, AL.  A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel, 3478 Jefferson St., Macon, MS  39341. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cooksville Methodist Church, c/o Peggy Simmons, 325 Paulette Rd, Macon, MS  39341. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

John Floyd Harrell was born on November 18, 1946, to the late Floyd Seaborn and Ina Lee Carr Harrell in Macon, MS. John Floyd attended both EMCC and Hinds junior colleges after high school graduation.  In 1969 he served in U.S. Air Force as a radar technician. He worked in Jackson at U.S. Geological Survey for a period and then later for Westinghouse. In 1973, he began his career as a telephone technician for South Central Bell, which later became Bellsouth, retiring in 1996. John Floyd took pride in his projects, a firm believer of ‘Fixing it right the first time’. He attended Cooksville Methodist Church. During his retirement, he enjoyed showing and working on Classic Cars. Chevrolet was his favorite make, having many models. He enjoyed woodworking and could build almost anything. He was known to his grandchildren as Papa. He loved his dogs, Bubba and Bo.

John Floyd is survived by his sons: John Christopher Harrell and wife Angie of Athens, Alabama and Jefferson Carr Harrell and his wife, Anna of Caledonia, MS; three grandchildren, John Aubrey Harrell (22), Bailey Rose Harrell (14) and Olivia Leigh Harrell (10).
