John Murphey Chancellor

Lt Colonel John Murphey Chancellor, 76, peacefully passed away at Jackson Madison General Hospital on December 17th, 2020 of natural causes.

John Chancellor was born on May 7th, 1944 in Goldsboro, NC. The family was stationed there in WWII, and the entire family would later return to their family and friends in Macon, MS. He graduated from Noxubee High School and then went on to East Mississippi Junior College to play football for the well- known coach, Bull Sullivan.  He continued his education at Mississippi State where he graduated, and after his Vietnam tour of duty he would later receive an MBA from the University of Alabama. He entered the air force in 1967 and ended his military career in 1993 with the Air National Guard.  As a fighter pilot flying the F-4 Phantom he flew over 100 missions in Viet-nam and received the Distinguished Flying Cross medal.  He then worked at W.P. Chancellor and Sons until he retired.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tinky and Tiny as well as his twin brother Don and sister-in- law Diane Chancellor. He is survived by his wife Jeanette, his siblings Poo Chancellor and his wife Gloria, Mary Ann Walker, and her husband Sparky and his two children John Chancellor Jr and Callie Zaugg. Son John has 4 children: Lauren Chancellor Daly and her husband DJ; Leah Chancellor McKenzie and her husband Matthew; Kelsey Chancellor Baeza and her husband Isaac; and John Chancellor III (Chase) and his wife Caitlin.  Daughter Callie and her husband Todd have three children: Chancellor, Peyton, and Rainey. He is also survived by his great grandchildren: Trey Daly; Graycen Daly; Luke Daly; Nora Mckenzie; Murphey McKenzie; Colle McKenzie
Some of John’s greatest loves were his country, flying, hunting, registered Labrador retrievers, good food, football, Christmas, and the annual Chancellor Beach family reunion.  John Chancellor, half of “Double Trouble”, known to some just as “Twin” will be greatly missed.

A family graveside service was held Sunday December 20th, in Macon, MS at Oddfellows Cemetery with Rev. Don Chancellor presiding.
