Mrs. Williams was born March 19, 1932, in Macon, Mississippi, to the late Nick Gary and Eunice Wilder Stuart. She married Ernest B. Williams, Jr., on Dec. 30, 1950, and they had one daughter, Lisa. They lived for several years in Warner Robins, GA, and then returned to Mississippi, settling in Columbus where she resided for over 50 years. Mrs. Williams had a banking career and furthered her education by attending the American Institute of Banking. In later years, she and her husband developed a residential community in New Hope, just outside of Columbus, known as Leigh Cove and Williams Place.
She was a long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Columbus, where she taught Sunday school in the children’s department for 15 years and was on numerous committees, serving her church family that she loved dearly. After her husband’s death, she moved to Flowood to be near family, and she joined St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where she remained active until her health made it difficult to attend in person.
She was a member of the Milady Luncheon Club, Terra Firma Garden Club, and was a charter member of the Columbus Literary Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernest, and sister, Nell Stuart Todd.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa McKay (Kevin) of Brandon, grandchildren Madeline and Meredith McKay, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Micky Cowan, Jim Gore, Alan Hurst, David Lindley, Wayne Stewart, and Robert Stuart.
The family wishes to express tremendous gratitude to Jane Stuart for her love and care, and also to the dear ladies of her neighborhood who were such faithful friends, and all of whom Mrs. Williams loved dearly.
