James (Jimmy) Cecil Mapp Sr

James C. Mapp, Sr., 80, of Brooksville, MS passed away Monday, February 5, 2024, at Garden Hill Assisted Living in Columbus, MS. A funeral service is planned for Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel, Macon, MS.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Graveside service will be held following the funeral at Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS at 3:30 p.m. Family requests no flowers please, memorials may be made to Brooksville Cemetery Fund, 586 Hines Rd., Brooksville MS  39739. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

James Cecil Mapp, Sr. was born on February 8, 1943, in Brooksville, MS to the late Allen Howell, Sr, and Elma Triplett Mapp. Jimmy, as he was known by most, graduated from East Mississippi Community College with a drafting degree. After college he married the former Virginia Creekmore and they made their home in Brooksville. As a drafter, he worked for several different companies including CECO Building and Gulf States. He retired from CECO Building in 2017. He spent his spare time raising beef cattle. Jimmy loved his dog “Jack.” Jimmy was a member of Brooksville Baptist Church. He enjoyed raising a garden and traveling. Jimmy was a member of the Holiday Club, and Noxubee Cattleman’s Association. He was a big fan of MSU football and men’s basketball.  Jimmy had a great love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Creekmore Mapp, siblings, Allen Mapp, Jr., Elma Hugh Murphy, and Elsie Ruth King.

Jimmy will be sorely missed by his children; Melanie Hines (Walter/Bubba), James C. (Jim) Mapp (Sandi), and John Mapp all of Brooksville, MS; sister-in-law, Susan May of Shady Valley, TN; three grandchildren, Michael Mapp, Riley Mapp, and James C Mapp, III(Morgan) and great granddaughter, Olivia Mapp; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Garden Hill Assisted Living and Legacy Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to our loved one.
