Gordon Banks

February 16, 1947 — June 1, 2019

Gordon Norris Banks, 72, passed away on Saturday, June 01, 2019, at his residence. Visitation will be Monday, June 03, 2019 from 5:00-7:00pm at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 04, 2019 at 10:00am from the Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Shawn Dickey officiating and Bro. Tommy Johnson assisting. Burial with military honors will follow at the Moore Cemetery.

Mr. Banks was born February 16, 1947, in Macon, MS, to the late Buford S. and Frances Outz Banks. He was a 1965 graduate of Noxubee County High School. He was a veteran and served his country as a Seabee, in the United States Navy, working as a heavy equipment operator. He completed two tours in Vietnam during his military career. He attended Mississippi State University. Always a hard worker, he had several civilian jobs, such as: teaching Ag-Mechanics at the Vo-Tech in Macon, and working as a truck driver for various trucking companies over the years, even having been a self-employed owner/operator. Throughout his driving career, he was able to have been to all 48 of the continental United States. He was a Member of Caledonia Church of Christ. A loving husband, father and “Daddy B” to his grands, he was the Patriarch of his family, strong-willed and determined,he always worked hard to provide for the needs of his family. Even after his retirement, he was able to work and constantly make improvements to his family’s home place in the country. He enjoyed music, especially Classic Rock and Country from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, and was very proud of his ’39 Jaguar that he built as a hobby. He enjoyed “tinkering” and always being involved with a project.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister: Edith B. Potts, and one brother: Travis N. Banks.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years: Dorothy Moore Banks; two daughters: Alison Banks Faulk (Troy) of Southaven, MS and Melissa Banks Conquest (Richard) of New Albany, MS; three grandchildren: Pamela and Zac Conquest and Claudia Eidson; and two brothers: Melvin Banks (Peggy) of Collins, MS, and Kenneth “Ken” Banks (Bonnie) of Columbia, TN.

Active Pallbearers will be: Troy Faulk, Richard Conquest, Zac Conquest, Trey Potts, Steve Banks and Eric Banks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Heard and the Men of Caledonia Church of Christ.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to Pinevale Children’s Home, 1872 Co Rd 700, Corinth, MS 38834; the Preacher Education Fund @ Caledonia Church of Christ, 900 Main Street, Caledonia, MS 39740; or to the Disabled Veteran’s of America online at dav.org.
