Florine Koehn

October 21, 1935 — July 10, 2022

Our mother, Ethel Florine Unruh Koehn, was born on October 21, 1935 to Joel and Lydia Koehn Unruh near Roxbury, Kansas. She quietly left us on Sunday morning, July 10, 2022, at Noxubee County Nursing Home. She was 86 years old.

She enjoyed her childhood as the youngest of a large family. She loved her daddy. She gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on November 20, 1949 by Min. Albert Unruh at Durham, Kansas.

On November 2, 1952 she married Franklin Eugene Koehn at Durham. They established their home near Winton, California. As a young mother s he became afflicted with Diabetes. Her determination was an asset to her through many health difficulties. She never complained. In the late '60's, through a healing prayer, her request to live to raise her sons was granted and her vision improved. She was a deep thinker and had a great faith in God.

We remember moving from house to house in California. In March 1978 they, together with their two youngest sons, moved to Alabama. This was a turning point in their lives.

Mom was a hard worker, always willing to help where she could to make ends meet. She was well known in the community for her baking in her later years. Her kind heart, fierce determination and brave spirit were passed on to her three granddaughters.

Mom suffered a stroke in October of 2011. This resulted in her moving to the Nursing Home in DeKalb, Mississippi. Dad joined her there about 6 months later. After several years, they moved to Noxubee County Nursing Home, Macon, Mississippi, to be closer to her family.

Dad and Mom were married for 67 years. The time of Dad's passing stands out as a difficult time for all of us because of the COVID pandemic. When we brought her back to Noxubee Nursing Home, the lockdown began and we were not able to visit her for over a year. She bore this difficulty patiently.

Left with fond memories are her children: Lorna and Dale Giesbrecht, Macon, Mississippi; Victor and Audra, Cole Camp, Missouri;Jason and Melissa, Geiger, Alabama; Cameron and Ruth Ann, Grifton, North Carolina; Grandchildren: Layne and Becky Giesbrecht, Brooksville, Mississippi; Lynne Anne and Jonathan Koehn, Scooba, Mississippi; Joel and Sonya Giesbrecht, Emelle, Alabama; Jonathan Wayne and Tiffany Koehn, Versailles, Missouri; Andrew and Natalie Koehn, Dalton, Ohio; Joseph and Lydia Koehn, Brooksville, Mississippi; Nathan and Kaitlyn Koehn, Grifton, North Carolina; Matthew and Kendra Koehn, Geiger, Alabama; Megan and Marshall Schmidt, Geiger, Alabama; Donovan and Becky Koehn, Albertville, Alabama; Hannah and Jedd Koehn, Grifton, North Carolina; 24 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Franklin, One infant son, Jonathan Roy and one great-grandson, Micah John Giesbrecht, her parents, and all of her brothers and sisters.

A funeral service is planned for Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Southern Star Church of God in Mennonite Church at 3:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Souls Chapel Cemetery in Geiger, AL.  A visitation will be held at the church Thursday from 2-3 p.m. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
