Ernest L. Brown, Jr., 79, of Grand Bay Al passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at his residence. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Brooksville Baptist Church in Brooksville, MS. A visitation will be held at the church Friday from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Interment is private and for the family only. Memorials may be made to Brooksville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 52, Brooksville, MS 39739.

Ernest Luther Brown, Jr. passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the age of 79. Ernest met The Lord Jesus peacefully surrounded by his family at his Grand Bay, Ala home. Ernest was born in Jackson, MS but moved to Brooksville, MS at a young age and lived there until 2015. He was the son of the late Judge Ernest L. Brown and Nancy Lucille Tucker Brown. Ernest was a graduate of Brooksville High School, East Mississippi Junior College in Scooba, MS and Mississippi State University where he majored in forestry. Ernest was known to all of his close friends by his nickname “Brownie” whereas his Dad always called him “Monk”. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves for six years and was a member of the American Legion post 0069.

Ernest worked at the management level for a variety of business including: Delta Macon Brick and Tile for several years, five years at Garan in Philadelphia, MS as an office manager and several years for Professional Geophysics in Eldorado, ARK and   Tyler, Texas. He retired from Gulf States Manufacturing where he was the Personnel Manager. After retirement Ernest drove a shuttle bus for students, faculty, and staff at Mississippi State University. He served the Pushmataha Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America in Meridian, MS as the Area Council Manager and had also served two terms as President of the Board at Land-O-Lakes in Brooksville, MS. He was a member of Brooksville Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and remained on the Deacon roll. One of Ernest’s favorite Bible verses was 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Ernest was a talented musician who played the dulcimer. He was a member of the North Mississippi Dulcimer Association and was president of their local chapter: The Brooksville Strummers Dulcimer Club.

Ernest was married to the former Judy Poag until her untimely death. Together they had one son: Ernest Luther Brown III. He later married the former Jewel Miller and in July they would have celebrated 52 years of marital bliss. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Judy Poag Brown and by one son: Mitchell Dean Brown.

Ernest Luther Brown, Jr is survived by his wife Jewel; his three sons: Ernest L. Brown III, Calvin Wesley Brown (Karen), Luther Bennett Brown (Jennifer)and daughter-in-law Paige Brown as well as by six grand-daughters Mari Hunter, Mollie Grace, Hannah, Amber, Ava, and Charity; and two great-grandsons Zayne and Easton. He also leaves behind four brothers: Charles Brown and Eugene Brown, both of Starkville, MS; Stephen Brown of Waynesville, MO and Chris Brown of Crawford, MS.
