Eddie Dennis Helton

Mr. Eddie Helton, 72, of Brooksville, MS passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at UMMC, Jackson, MS.  A memorial service with military honors is planned for Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, MS.  Memorials may be made to Sweet Paws Rescue, 310 Main St., Groveland, MA  01834.  Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Eddie Dennis Helton was born on December 27, 1951in Tupelo, MS to the late Jerry R. and Anita Helton-Bradshaw. He and his family moved to Davenport, IO where he was a graduate of Central Hills. After working several different civilian jobs, he joined the US Army and served served as a sergeant in the intelligence division. He retired from the service after ten years of service and began working for United States Transportation Safety Administration. Later on, he worked for an overseas security contracting service. Eddie met Diana Romero in Burbank, CA while working for the TSA. They married on September 1, 2003 in Las Vegas, NV and honeymooned in Alaska. In 2006, they moved to Brooksville where they made their home and continued working for the security contracting company. In 2016, Eddie fell ill and was unable to continue working.  His hobbies included gardening, Harley Davidson motorcycles and listening to wind chimes. Eddie was a musician who played bass guitar and he played with several bands over the years. Eddie never met a stranger. He cared about the homeless people around him and he loved his dogs.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Jennifer Russell Helton and brothers: Theodore Helton, Jerry Russell Helton, II, Russell Gregory Helton and Gregory Russell Helton.

Eddie survivors include his wife, Diana Helton, son, Jerry Russell Helton, III of Tucson, AZ; sister: Melodye Getz-Rice, four grandchildren, Julia McMeekan, Tyler McMeekan, Dennis McMeekan and Kenny Lee McCormick.
