Dwayne Arthur Allsup

Dwayne Arthur (Pappy) Allsup, 84, of Macon, MS passed away at his residence in Macon, MS on Saturday, October 17, 2020.  A graveside service was held Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon, MS with his first cousin, Artie Shaul officiating.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN  38105.  Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Dwayne Arthur Allsup was born on November 3, 1935 to H.B. Allsup and Dorthea Shaul Allsup. Mr. Allsup attended Macon High School and Freed Hardeman College in Henderson, TN. By profession, he was a farmer and a salesman. He won many trips for being the top producing salesman. Some of the trips he won were to Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Canada, Hawaii, and many metropolitan cities in the U.S.

Mr. Allsup was a storyteller and he loved to entertain people. He loved to cook for a big crowd. He was known for the delicious fifty-pound roast that he would cook. He cooked many meals for his children and their classmates for graduation parties and sporting events.

Mr. Allsup married Carolyn Haley on April 1, 1956. They raised four children in Macon, MS. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Allsup is survived by his wife, Carolyn Haley Allsup; children: Donna Allsup Whitten (Steve) of Ethelsville, AL, Richard Brice Allsup (Linda) of Macon, MS, Dena Allsup Taylor of Rockford, TN., Bruce Arthur Allsup (Stephanie) of Columbus, MS; grandchildren: Haley Taylor Abshire (Brandon) of Rockford, TN, Austin Patrick Allsup of Columbus, MS, Ashley Hunter Allsup, Washington, D.C., Allison Nicole Allsup of Starkville, MS, Richard Samuel Allsup of Macon, MS; great grandchildren: Ella Jo Abshire, Rockford, TN., Arthur Mitchell Abshire, Rockford, TN.; brothers: Victor Brice Allsup (Mary) of Macon, MS, Donald Edward Allsup (Rachel) of Macon, MS, and sister: Sybil Allsup Byrd (Herbert) of Rockford, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.
