Douglas Jones

November 30, 1948 — January 7, 2024

Douglas Jones, 75, of Shuqualak, MS passed away, Sunday, January 7, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.  A graveside service is planned for Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Butler Cemetery near Shuqualak, MS. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105. Honorary pallbearers will be James Reel, Fred Thomas, Mike Eaves, Ted Thomas, Morgan Adams, Ricky Rigdon, Curtis Little and Tommy Dale Coleman. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Douglas Jones was born November 30, 1948 to Andrew and Zelda Mae Paige Jones in Shuqualak, MS.

He attended Shuqualak School. Douglas was married to the former Betty Ruehling in 1970 and they made their home in Shuqualak where they raised two sons, Michael and David. Douglas was a longtime employee of Shuqualak Lumber where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He retired from Shuqualak Lumber Company in 2011. Douglas enjoyed tinkering in his shop, raising a big garden, fishing and visiting with family and friends. He was a wonderful neighbor in his community where he helped others and he always enjoyed having a good laugh with his friends.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Betty Jones of Shuqualak, MS; two sons, Michael Jones (Erin) of Macon, MS and David Jones (Tricia) of Starkville and by his three grandsons: Jay Jones, Carson Jones, and Jonathan Black as well as by four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Charles Jones of Vaiden, MS; Junior Jones, Sue Higginbotham, and Willis Jones, all of Shuqualak and by Harvey Jones of Nanih Waiya, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother: Billy Joe Jones.
