Doris Varner Mitchener

Doris Varner Mitchener, 76, of Macon, MS passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Macon, MS. Visitation will be held in the fellowship hall Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 162, Macon, MS 39341.Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS is entrusted with arrangements.

Doris Varner Mitchener was born on May 16, 1943 in Macon, MS to the late Arthur Samuel and Mary Louise Moore Varner. Doris graduated from Macon High School in 1961. She went on to graduate from Draughns Business College. After college,  she returned home to work for  her father with his business, Macon Oil Company. On October 10, 1965, she married John C. Mitchener. They attended Macon Presbyterian Church for a time and later became members for First United Methodist Church. Doris was a life member of Macon Junior Auxiliary, Noxubee Garden Club, Daughters of American Revolution  and Women’s Study Circle. She retired from the Department of Human Services after many years. Doris was passionate about flower gardening and traveling. She was a fun loving person who enjoyed life with her family and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Art Varner, Jr.

Doris is survived by her husband: John C. Mitchener of Macon, MS; two sons: Keven Mitchener (Lou)  of Oxford, MS and Jason Oren Mitchener of Macon; three grandchildren: Kyle Mitchener, Mary Hardin Mitchener, and Jake Mitchener.
