“Dee” as she is most affectionately known, was born April 11,1958. She graduated from Central Academy in Macon. Dee married Kenneth L. “Moe” King and soon there after started their family. A natural caregiver, she aspired to be a nurse. She graduated from Nursing School at Mississippi University for Women. Straight to the newborn nursery she went, and she never looked back!

Dee loved ALL the babies, everyone’s babies! She rocked, “blessed bones,” and placed her signature “kissy curls” on every newborn she swaddled! A welcoming smile, unwavering compassion, excitement and love for others was felt by everyone who met her! There was a serious side that could get in the trenches when babies were sick, and needed the special care that only a NICU nurse could provide. Her years of experience placed her in the path of numerous other nurses who she helped to guide into the field of caring for God’s tiniest of miracles. Dee impacted the lives of others in a way that is a true example of the love of Jesus.

Her life outside of hospital nurseries was simple, but fun and full of joy. Most of that joy was brought to her through the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a remarkable mother! As she always figured out a way to make things work and provide for those she loved. She beamed with pride when others spoke of her children! She was so proud of the lives that they built for themselves as adults. But nothing in this world made her light up faster than her grandchildren. She was GranDee to them and her babies were the center of her universe!

She loved to travel and has visited every state, with the exception of Alaska! Gardening, cookouts, and shopping were some of her favorite hobbies. She left a mark on this world that has impacted the lives of every person she came in contact with! Dee did her part to make the world a better place! Those who preceded Dee in death were her husband, Kenneth L. “Moe” King, her father, Walter Goodlow “Son” Brown, her brother, Bub Brown, her mother-in-law, Mildred Hines King and father-in-law, Sonny King.

Those left to mourn Dee’s passing are her mother, Shirley Brown; daughters: Mollie King (Tracy Jones) and Katie Shappley (Cody); a son, Walter King, Brooksville, MS; sister, Bunny Atkins; her grandchildren: Nathan, Lucas, Sunnie Kate, Cade, and Kendall, bonus grandchildren: Claire, Gracie, Grant and Cole Kimbrough; nieces and nephew, Addie Talley, Anna Atkins, and Brad Foster; and a host of extended family members.
