David Warren Cotton, 86, of Macon, MS passed away at Anderson Hospital in Meridian on February 1, 2023. His funeral service will be held on Monday, February 6, at Salem Memorial Church at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow in the Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at the church. Memorials are requested to the Salem Memorial Church c/o Ann Ronyak 43566 Hwy 14 West Macon, MS 39341.Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is honored to be in charge of the service arrangements.
Davis Warren Cotton was born in Macon on April 7, 1936 to the late Andrew Warren Cotton and Myrtle Lee McDavid Cotton. He began school at the historical Salem School House in the Salem community where he grew up and lived all of his life. He graduated from Macon High School in the class of 1953. David served four years with the United States Air Force, including 18 months in Tripoli, Libya. After his military service, he attended and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1960 with a degree in Dairy Manufacturing. This led to his career with the U.S. government serving in the Division of the Federal Milk Order, which was a part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He later worked for the Mississippi State Department of Health, from which he retired in 2006.
After his retirement, David enjoyed caring for his herd of cattle. In his leisure time he enjoyed quail hunting and raising and working bird dogs. He was a soft-spoken man whose family always felt the unconditional love he held for them. His family and friends will always remember him for his dry sense of humor and friendly personality. He was a longtime member of Salem Memorial Church.
David Warren Cotton is survived by his wife of 63 years: Nancy Guy Cotton; his daughter: Linda Cotton Gilliam (Alan) and his son: Mike Cotton (Jan). He also leaves behind his sister: Anne Ronyak (Dennis) and his brother: Andy Roy Cotton (Betty) as well as his grandchildren: Leslie More, Clint Allen, Rebecca Moffitt, and Zakk Cotton and his great-grandchildren: Clay More, Carly More, Bentley Allen, Braxton Allen, and Reid Moffitt. David was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son: John Cotton and a daughter: Leanne Cotton.
