Carol Persons Floore

April 6, 1943 — January 8, 2023

Carol Persons Floore of Shuqualak, Mississippi passed away suddenly on January 8, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS. She was 79. Even though a failing heart took her away from this world, she left a beacon of light for all in her community.

The family is hosting a visitation Saturday, January 14 from 2-3PM CST and a funeral service 3-4PM CST at Shuqualak Baptist Church (7110 Line St, Shuqualak, MS). Carol will be laid to rest at Cedar Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Scooba, MS. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Carol was born on April 6, 1943 to Oscar and Gladys Persons in Macon, MS. Her father founded O.B. Persons Lumber Company, and she grew up under the loving care of the large Persons’ family. In 1959, she married Burns Floore, welcomed children into their life, and soon began working as a legal secretary in Macon.

While working, Carol took night classes and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the Mississippi University for Women. She had a successful career in the brick industry which took her out of Mississippi for a brief period. When she returned home to care for her aging parents, she finished her career as an office manager for Macon Septic Systems, Inc.

Carol was a compassionate and caring woman, always thinking of others. During retirement, she spent much of her time volunteering in service of her community: she collected supplies for Mississippi families suffering from hurricane destruction, visited the sick and elderly, and delivered supplies to those in need. During the holiday season, Carol could often be found at the Shuqualak Baptist Church organizing presents for Operation Christmas Child.

Carol also served her community by preserving its connection to the past. She served on the board of the Noxubee County Historical Society and was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution. During her time with the DAR she was instrumental in obtaining grants for schools and served as the Mississippi DAR Committee Chair for three years. In 2022 she completed the certification for her newly elected office as Registrar.

Through the Triple J Travel group, Carol became an avid traveler later in life and made wonderful friends. She thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the world with trips across the United States, Alaska, England, Ireland, Switzerland, France, Germany, and the Caribbean Islands among others.

Most of all, Carol was a beloved mother who inspired her children and grandchildren. She shared small tokens of her love frequently, as family was always first on her mind. Carol is survived by her three children: Susan Beaudoin (Joe Beaudoin), Kenneth Floore, and Lynda Unruh (Dorsey Unruh). In addition to her children, she is survived by her brother, Olen Persons (Margie Persons), and two sisters, Sue Skipper (James Skipper) and Janet Thompson (Jim Thompson). She was also a proud grandmother of six: Rachel Stermer, Abigail Reiter (Greg Reiter), Allyson Stermer, Aaron Beaudoin, Kelsey Davis (Corey Davis), Evan Unruh, and great-grandmother to Wren Reiter.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy consider a donation to Operation Christmas Child or their preferred charity in Carol Floore’s name.
