Billy Vernon

Billy Wayne Vernon, 70, passed away on Monday, May 22,2023 at Noxubee General Hospital. A funeral service is planned for Saturday, May 27,2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Soul Harbor Pentecostal Church 403 Residence St.,  Shuqualak, MS 39361. Interment will follow in Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. 146 Weaver Lane, Preston, MS  39354. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Billy Wayne Vernon was born in Macon, MS on December 12, 1952, to Sam and Olga Presley Vernon. He was a graduate of Noxubee County High School. Billy attended Mississippi State University to study ag engineering, but his passion was farming so he went to work farming with his dad. Later, Billy became the manager of Tom Soya grain elevator, a position he held for over thirty-five years. He learned to love playing solitaire while working there and became an expert. Billy was a member of Soul Harbor Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed spending time on the family farm, fishing, and hunting. He loved his family dearly. Billy is preceded in death by father, Sam Vernon.

Billy is survived by his wife, Trena Vernon, his mother, Olga Vernon, two daughters, Blair Duke and Lauren Vernon, a son, Jordan Vernon, three sisters, Janice Campbell (John), Sue Guido (Al), Peggy McCrory (Mike), a brother, Terry Vernon (Shirley) and granddaughter, Christine Foster.
