Betty Garrison Wilson

April 29, 1931 — February 2, 2022

Betty G. Wilson, 90, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her children, in Birmingham, Alabama on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, from an aortic dissection.  Her memorial service will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022, at her home at 108 Narrows Creek Drive, Birmingham, Alabama 35242, at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Harry L. Reeder, III, Senior Pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, officiating. Visitation will follow immediately after the service.  A private burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery will be held later with Cockrell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Betty Marie Garrison was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 29, 1931, to the late Brazzie Mae Welch and Jerimiah Thomas Garrison.  The family moved to Macon, Mississippi in 1941. She attended Macon High School before marrying Billy Wilson on August 12, 1949, after dating for two weeks.  She retired from the family-owned grocery store, Bill’s Self Service, in mid-1993.

Betty was baptized at Elon Baptist Church at a young age.  Upon marrying Billy, she became a member of Macon Presbyterian Church where she started the nursery in 1962 and kept it for over 25 years.  She returned to Elon Baptist Church and kept the nursery there for several years.  After Billy’s death, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where she was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, by her husband of 57 years, by one grandchild and by one great-grandchild.  She is survived by her two daughters: Carol Ann McIntosh (Ed), Dunwoody, Georgia and Sarah Frances Wilson, Birmingham, Alabama; her son: Jerry Tyson Wilson, Birmingham, Alabama; her brother: Ulas Edwin (Ed/Ookie) Garrison, Scottsdale, Arizona; her sister: Dora Lee Barks Chetelat, Ocean Shores, Washington; and her sister-in-law, Mary Wilson Johnson, Cornelius, North Carolina.  She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.  She was affectionately known to many as Bebe and Betty Boop.
