Betty Thomas Healy, Madison, MS.

Mrs. Healy, 82, of Madison, MS, formerly of Macon, MS, passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS. Her funeral service will be Monday June 18, 2018 at 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Madison Chapel. A visitation for family and friends will precede the service from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The celebration of her life will continue Tuesday June 19, 2018 at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, MS with a visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, immediately followed by a graveside service at Oddfellows Cemetery. Betty Healy was married to Don Healy for over 55 years. Together, they ran Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, MS for 14 years. Betty Healy’s life was defined by her family and her faith.

Betty was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Macon for over 33 years.

In the close-knit community of Macon, Betty was highly regarded for her unparalleled warmth and hospitality, as all were welcome and well-fed in her home. All who were acquainted with her knew that Betty was the epitome of resilience, beauty, and grace. Betty cherished the friendships she developed in Macon over the course of her 33 years there, and she was always busy with myriad social clubs and church activities, which she continued upon moving to Madison, MS in 2010. As an avid homemaker, Betty was trained from a young age in the art of traditional Southern cooking. She was famous for her world-renowned brownies and chocolate frosting, in addition to her homemade plum jelly and other baked goods.

Over the last few years, Betty’s favorite TV show was Dancing with the Stars, which always reminded her of the times she spent with Don dancing the night away. Her family takes great comfort in knowing that she is with Don, now and forever, eternally dancing among the stars.

Mrs. Healy was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Don Healy, her parents: Milton and Julia Thomas, and her brother Milton “Sonny” Thomas.

She is survived by one daughter: Paula Hawkins (Jack) of Bradenton, FL; three sons: Rusty Healy (Ellen) of Madison, Randy Healy of Madison, and Merrill Healy of Madison as well as by two sisters: Anna Berry of Long Beach, MS and Sarah Shoemake of Oakdale, LA, and one sister-in-law: Mary Rosalind Brailey of Dayton, OH. Also left to mourn her passing are ten grandchildren, three great­grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
