Betty M. Giffin Martin, 88 of Macon, Mississippi passed away in Greenwood, Mississippi on September 6, 2021.  A funeral service will be held at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, Mississippi at 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 9 th .  Visitation will precede the funeral beginning at 11:00 am.  Burial will be at Oddfellows Cemetery following the service.

Betty was born in Louisville, MS on September 12, 1932 to Russell and Sadie Giffin.  She graduated from Louisville Public Schools in 1950.  After graduation she attended Millsaps College earning her English Degree in three years.  She taught in Natchez, MS Public Schools and Dallas, TX Public Schools until 1960 when she returned home to marry Warren W. Martin, Jr.  After a decade of teaching at Noxubee County Public Schools, she taught at Central Academy for over 20 years.  Her final teaching years were in Columbus, MS Public Schools.  She spent many years teaching her students Latin and History.

Betty was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and served as an active member in Macon for 61 years.  She loved her church and had a strong faith.  Betty lived her faith daily by helping others and touched many with her kindness and sincerity.  She was a member of DAR and was an avid bridge player.  She and her husband, Warren (Doc), loved to travel covering many states and countries.

Betty loved her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

Preceding her in death were her parents Russell and Sadie Giffin, Alma Jean Giffin Younger (Sister), Horton Giffin (Brother) all of Louisville,MS.

Surviving siblings include Yvonne Giffin McMilliin of Louisville, MS and Jackie Giffin of Tulsa, OK.

She leaves behind her family:  Husband William Warren Martin, Jr.  Her sons, David Martin (Susan) of Jonesboro, AR and Russell Martin (Judith) of Greenwood, MS.  Her grandsons Michael Martin of Memphis, TN and Clayton Martin of Greenwood, MS. Many nieces and nephews.

Betty leaves behind her devoted friends, Linda Gilkey and Ricky Trimble of Macon, MS

Pallbearers are Bert Hadaway, Bob Hadaway, Chuck Cotton, Fred Brooks, Michael Martin and Clayton Martin
