Ann Griffin Baker, 89, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Funeral services will he held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Gambrell Street Baptist Church, 1616 W Gambrell Street, Fort Worth, TX. Interment will be after the service at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 2301 North Sylvania Avenue, Fort Worth, TX.
Ann was born April 30, 1935, in Macon, Mississippi. She graduated from Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, in 1957. She then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, being the first young woman to enroll in the School of Theology. Ann earned a Master of Divinity degree in 1961.
Ann taught special education and earned her Master of Special Education and PhD in Psychology from Texas Woman’s University.
Ann and a colleague opened a counseling clinic in Forth Worth in 1992 and provided supervision to another clinic in the area. Ann served in all these capacities until she retired in 2016.
Ann was truly gifted in her insight to understand and skill in relating to people. Her life was focused on loving and helping the people whose lives she touched to know God. Ann and her husband especially enjoyed raising their children and occasionally antiquing together.
Ann is preceded in death by two sons, Brookes H. Baker, Jr. and Steven H. Baker, her parents, Earnest William and Laura Mae Deavenport, and her sister, Inez Barge. She is survived by brother, Earnest W. Deavenport, Jr. She is also survived by her husband, Brookes H. Baker, three children, Laura Alliene Baker, John Landrum Baker, and Mary Elizabeth Simmons, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and many more dear friends.
Ann is now free to walk with God.
