Andy Roy was born in Macon, MS on June 7, 1934, he was the eldest of three children born to the late Andrew and Myrtle Lee McDavid Cotton. After graduating from Macon High School, he served his country in the United States Air Force then attended Mississippi State University. After
Graduating from MSU, he went to work in Greenwood where he met Betty Jean Riddell. They wed December 30, 1962. Over the next 6 decades, they raised 2 sons and built lives based on service to their community and devotion to each other. Mr. Cotton made his living with the Mississippi Board of Health, but in his heart, he was always a farmer and took great pride in being a part of that community. He loved Noxubee County and always considered it home no matter where he may have been at the moment. Most importantly of all, he was a man of deep faith and did his best to live up to the admonishment found in Matthew 25:40, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me”. With that in mind, he was always willing to serve in any way he could, whether that meant serving his church as a deacon or helping a stranger on the side of the road or his community through a 50-year membership in the Lion’s Club. He could always be counted on when help was needed. Andy Roy is preceded by his parents and brother, David Cotton.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Betty, sons Andrew (Sherry) and John (Holly), 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and his sister Anne Ronyak (Dennis) and sister-in-law Nancy Cotton.
