Evelyn Parker Cardin

March 30, 1921 — November 1, 2010

Mrs. Evelyn Parker Cardin, 89, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 at Noxubee General Hospital. A graveside service is planned for Thursday, November 4, 2010 3:00 P.M. at Lynn Creek Cemetery near Brooksville with the Rev Dr. Connie Shelton officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 3 at Cockrell Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS is in charge of services.
Mrs. Cardin was born in Chesterfield County, South Carolina and graduated from Zoar High School near there. While in nursing school, she met and later, on December 5, 1942, married Tommie N. Cardin. After his discharge from the military in 1945, they moved to Brooksville in Noxubee County, Mississippi, where they made their home and where she lived until her death. She assisted her husband in numerous businesses and, following her husband’s death in 1980, she ultimately served as Circuit Clerk for Noxubee County for brief time. Later she was a caregiver for several elderly ladies in Noxubee County and also served as a nursery worker at Brooksville Baptist Church. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking and sewing for her friends and family.
She is survived by one daughter: Patricia and husband Thomas Calloway of Brooksville, MS and one son: Tommie and wife Susan Cardin of Clinton, MS. She is also survived by a brother: Rae Parker of Lake City, South Carolina and by one sister-in-law: Rachel C. Luckenbach of Cinnaminson, New Jersey. Also remaining to honor her memory are three Grandchildren: Michael Thomas Calloway, Hannah Rachel Cardin, and Mary Clair Cardin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and by 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
