James A. Hensleigh

March 1, 1918 — September 21, 2010

Mr. Hensleigh passed away in Hattiesburg, MS on September 21, 2010. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Shuqualak United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Shuqualak Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday at the funeral home from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Shuqualak United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 43 Shuqualak MS 39361.

Mr. Hensleigh was born in Winchester, KS. He was the son of the late Charles and Edna Elizabeth Steele Hensleigh. He married Eleanor Kathryn Luke on June 23, 1943. He was employed by the Mississippi State Highway Department, the United States Corps of Engineers at Camp Shelby, Mississippi , during World War II. After the war he was transferred to the Philippine Islands where he was chief of the Real Estate Division in Manila. He returned to Shuqualak in 1949 and became the manager of Hensleigh-Tubb Company until he retired in 1984.

Since coming to Noxubee County to live, Mr. Hensleigh was generous with his time and abilities in civic, cultural, and charitable agencies of the community.

He was President of the Noxubee County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Board of Alderman for Shuqualak for 20 years. He was a member of Shuqualak United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Official
Board, and a Sunday School teacher. He was a medical missionary in Uganda, Honduras, and Haiti.

He was a member of the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District, the Shuqualak-Noxubee Health Care Center.

For the past 4 years, Jimmy has led the singing in the daily devotions at Alden Pointe Assisted Living in Hattiesburg, MS.

Preceded in death by his wife Kathryn Luke Hensleigh; two brothers, Walt and John Hensleigh.
